Park Butte is one of the most popular Mount Baker area hikes and it is knock-down gorgeous! The views of the North Cascades are crazy gorgeous. A somewhat steep trail gives access to campsites and a maintained historic fire lookout built in 1932 remains open for guests. The Forest Service now uses advanced technology to search for fires, but back in the day, fire lookouts were widespread on the peaks of the Cascades. The Park Butte Lookout is one of the few remaining intact and publicly accessible. 7.5 miles roundtrip and 2200 feet of elevation gain.
